The engines in the front were placed after the kinesis pipe, and the engines in the back were placed before the kinesis pipe. They still function fine, it's purely visual. Logging out and back in or smacking the engines with a wrench causes it to recognize them as sources. (Personally I like them just fine without the closed end, although it does make me expect the wooden pipes to power machines when it does that :P)
