Buildcraft pipes and machines aren't taking energy from Railcraft engines

I have tested this with all three types of steam engines. The steam engines connect to the wooden kinesis pipes, but no power is seen moving through them and the Buildcraft device they are trying to power does nothing. Using v6.1.4 with Forge 1217.
