Heat Exchanger pausing from time to time

I was using 2 3 part heat exchangers to cool molten iron from the ore processor and both would randomly pause processing fluid. I thought at first it was because I was leaving the area for to long until it happened while I was watching them. If I use the wrench and rotated the middle section 180 degrees it would start working. I know neither was out of fluids to process as both incoming pipes where full of red liquid and each is being supplied water by it's own pump. I rebuilt my exchanger using 4 parts and have not had any issues.

I completely skipped over minecraft 1.11.x so if this is a known issue my apologies for being to lazy to read the 1.11 forums
thanks

seems this got missed somehow

can you make sure there was no remaining fluid in the heat exchanger, it will not work if it doesn't have enough fluids (a remainder from an prev liquid might be still in there)

also what do you mean with '1.11 forum', the BC forum has been closed before then so there is no forum anymore, only the discord

the heat exchangers were only being used for the ore fluid running in series, to cool the liquid from searing to cool before going into the fluid to ingot converter. As for 1.11 forum, what I meant was I skipped from MC 1.10.x to 1.12.2 and missed any forum/discord posts about 1.11.x so not sure what was "normal" coming into 1.12.x.
thanks

can you provide some screenshots?

Sorry just saw this. I will try to get you some.

commented

can you provide screenshots? the proximity of the engine itself won't matter but the way you have things wired due to it might

sorry haven't gotten back to this. My saved world got corrupted and had to start a new one. The pausing is still any issue but it seems to be related to having a red stone engine near by. I have several setup and the one with no redstone engine within a block or two of the exchanger hasn't paused. The ones that run straight out of the the ore processor and then into the fluid processors with all the related engines seem to be the ones that pause. I am going to reconfigure my setup with the processors further away from the exchanger to see if that stops the pausing. Again thanks for all you do

I'm actually having the same issue, I have 3 heat exchangers next to each other. The purpose of them is to cool Fuel, and Dense Fuel from the refinery. It doesn't matter if I break and replace the exchanger, or the pipes next to it, ive had limited success trying to get it to function. All of the pipes that are next to each other are plugged. (Edit: So i noticed that this is actually a visual bug, the fluid is still moving around the pipes, and exiting the exchanger, and it is still filling the tanks with cooled fuel. There is just no animation of the exchangers.)

thanks for the info, if it's only a visual thing we've been looking in the wrong place for this

do have any mods that mess with rendering (like optifine and the like?) and/or are there chunkloaders in the area?

every since I moved the 4 red stone engines so they weren't right next to the output block of the exchanger it pauses much less often but It still pauses, one of the screen shots shows the center block where it doesn't look like it's merged. If I turn it with a wrench and put it back it starts working again.
one thing I found and not sure why, the cool output fluid will fill the pipe leading to the storage tank farm but not appear to go into the tank. I put a small 2 stack tank right at the exit port and then pump that to the tank farm. Surprisingly the exchangers I have setup with the ore processors on this world haven't given me any trouble at all.

It could still be visual, when it pauses, check the output of the exchanger. also from the bottom picture, the fuel going in to be cooled, the output pipe looks filled. I think that the exchanger acts as a pipe on the other end, so when you rotate the middle part, it breaks the exchanger multiblock destroying the fuel inside, thus leaving open space.

On another note: I am using optifine, but it is outdated, I'll try to update it and see if it changes anything. I also dont have any chunk loaders in the area.

Edit: So the odd thing is, the exchangers i use to heat the oil are animated just fine

I used an initial lava source to heat heavy oil to create hot fuel. once I had a reserve of hot fuel I switched to that to heat the heavy oil this in turn cools the fuel for use. I use water to cool the hot dense oil. the dense oil cooling process hasn't paused that i have seen. my ore processing setup is very cramped but hasn't paused very often and usually i found something causing it.

can you try with not having optifine installed at all?

Posting for Icewater1402#5446 on Discord:

"Not sure if it is only this exchange of fluids, but I am only having issues with the exchange of these fluids. Hot Mixed Light Fuels and cool oil.

When these two fluids exchange, it works perfectly fine. However, over time the heat exchanger does not flow and is paused for some reason. The way to quickly resolve this is to destroy the pipe for the hot gaseous fuel and reconnect it. After that, it starts working again but runs into the same problem."
