Huge lag when switching perspectives or sleeping

I've noticed that the first time I switch perspectives or sleep, there is a huge lag spike. This only happens for the first time, and rejoining the world doesn't seem to cause it to lag more.
The screenshot is from about a week ago btw
I'm using an unreleased version of canvas, from 12/13
