Similar to a glass pane, except potentially opaque.

Thin, pane-like versions of most blocks would have some decorative use? It'd be useful as a flatter alternative to fences and walls, or as opaque windows.

I get the idea, but what would make it useful if not for blocks that don't already have pane versions?
