Would it be difficult to add a skinable block that acts like redstone dust and allows redstone signals to simply flow through it? If such a block existed you could use it for example to run "wires" from a lever up a wall then over to a redstone light and you wouldn't need to have the wall 3 blocks wide to hide the wiring.

I have considered it, but one problem I have is power propagation -- I think it probably uses metadata for redstone dust, but for this mod's blocks it would require storing more data in the tile entity. Though a bigger problem is the impact this would have on block updates, which are already fairly time-consuming.
