Chiseled bookshelf lost books (until you place a new book)

Expected Behavior
Books don't disappear.
Actual Behavior
Books disappear.
Steps to Reproduce
Pick up a chiseled bookshelf (vanilla) with books in it. When it's placed, the books will be gone, you can't take them out, however if you place another book in it, everything comes back.
Version of Minecraft, Carry On, Forge/Fabric
- Minecraft: 1.20.1
- carryon-fabric-1.20.1-2.1.1.3
- Fabric: 0.14.21
