Should chalk be working as dye for all dyable items? It works for shulker boxes and items in Create but it won't let me dye wool, glass, panes, terracotta, concrete or candles.

I'm also curious if you'd consider making chalk use durability when used as dye in crafting recipes. I think they'd make a great replacement to having to farm items for use as dye. It would get you 64 uses from a single dye by making it into chalk, and then using it to dye items.

Working dye recipes use tags for dye item. So any item registered with dye tag can be used to craft something dyeable.
The problem is with Minecraft's own recipes. They use hardcoded items as dyes. (White dye, Blue dye, etc).

I would have to modify all mojang dye recipes for it to work. Idk if this is a good idea. (I hope they fix this sometime in a future. As you pointed out, Shulker boxes already use this system.)

That's a nice idea. But 64 uses from single dye is a little bit OP. Maybe using chalk as dye can use more durability to have like 8 uses. I'll look into it when I get some time to work on a mod.

Well then looks like I'm going to fix that using a datapack. If you want the json files after I tweak them all to use tags, lmk.

FYI, I'm gonna call you out because I just noticed your chalk recipes don't use tags for the dye. Bad mod dev, go to your room. ;)

Edit: I just realized, if you did use dye tags, you would have infinite chalk as you could keep using one to create more and more. Ignore me.

Yeah, using dye tag for chalk crafting doesn't seem to be a good thing. It would work if chalks were not considered a dye.
Also multiple uses as dye in recipe is more complicated to do than I thought. I don't have much time now to figure it out. I'll keep this in a suggestions list for now.
