While using Companion Bats, I accidentally slayed my own pet bat during a battle against a pack of zombies. The description page on SourceForge describes a feature of this mod as

No more accidentally hurting your own pets

So I'm guessing that this is some sort of compatibility issue

Unable to reproduce; just tried summoning a bat and took several swings at it and there was no damage to the bat.
Sorry for the bother, my guess is that I didn't have Charm Reforged active at the time (see issue #131)
