Also, for some reason GDLauncher is very against upgrading past 2.2.2, which is the reason I hadn't upgraded before.

Gdlauncher does have difficulties like this sometimes. Are you using Optifine? If so, please try without.

Please upgrade to the latest version of Charm (2.3.2) and confirm that this is still an issue.
