Chisel left-click bypasses protection

The bigger issue here is that it bypasses protection.
I wanna disable left click chiselling, because it bypass protections how do I do that??
I use the plugin GriefPrevention for claim protection
I'll be honest, I spent a lot of time investigating this issue, and came up with no sensible way to fix it. Not with sponge or (somehow) bukkit. Hopefully the facilities for this kind of thing improve in the future.

Can you not check if the block the player is interacting with is in a claim with this?
