[Forge 1.20.1] game eventually freezing after chiseling blocks

the game eventually freezes after a while of chiseling and never recovers from it. This happens even if it's the only mod installed
I went ahead and installed modernfix to get a thread dump in the logs so hopefully that helps
let me know if ya need anything else
Also getting this issue in 1.20.1.
