I'm using the forge version of this mod and trees still get cut in half. I'm using forge 36.2.39. The first ones are minecraft with only the mod installed. The last one is with "Oh The Biomes You'll Go" installed. To test the issue more clearly I used a render distance of 4 and reloaded a few times, then turned it back to 12 and reloaded one more time, then I took the screenshots.
