there is an issue currently between cosmetic wood and travellers backpack, the way cosmetic wood changes the stock minecraft chests it causes the loss of the crafting recipe for the starting backpack, i'm not sure if it's affected other mods that require the vanilla versions of blocks like the chests, crafting benches, and the like, but it might be something to look into, or a possible config to add to revert the normal variants and just eliminate the "oak" variants.
