Description of feature request
It would be cool to see a toggleable targeting mode that makes the heads never directly target any mobs, but will occasionally try and shift the angle that the beam is going to catch a mob/player in it
Instead of the heads looking around periodically, they always move around and never have pauses when changing the direction they are looking.
When a mob is caught in the beam, they stay locked in the beam like a tractor beam block cluster unless 1. The eye is cracked 2. They get pulled out using a fishing rod, or 3. The heads get distracted. The same applies for players as well.
Structure targeting and distraction rules would remain the same as usual, with beams being able to lock on to that spot
My only concern is that it might never ever reach any mob, and more importantly, players, making it useless as a threat. While the heads could move really fast to cover more area quicker, I'd rather not have them move too speedily since slowing them down was a key feature in Evolution: Part One.
The current targeting implementation is meant to mimic it scanning like this while being certain to always have a target if one is available. This suggestion would make it so most mobs would rarely be targeted. While this feature could be toggleable I currently do not want to spend the time implementing this.
For these reasons, I'll be closing this suggestion. Thank you though for providing your feedback.

I don't think I quite conveyed the message very well, so I'll explain it better:
-
I never said they'd slow down, I said they wouldn't stop while scanning the ground and while grabbing mobs
-
It would be able to catch mobs and players easily, as it would shift the angle the beam is moving to catch a targeted mob (once the mob/player is in the beam, it continues to move randomly unless it finds another target), plus the mob in the beam wouldn't be able to leave the beam once grabbed, similar to the tractor beams' block clusters
-
Even if the angle the head is going isn't directly at a target, it could still shift the angle towards it. However, it could prioritize targets that are in the path of the beam/close to it when there are mobs in the path.
-
I understand the last statement entirely (I'm just trying to explain what I said better)
-
To better understand what I mean, you could look at the wither storm addon that's available for Garry's Mod, what I'm trying to describe is almost identical to that (with a few changes to match up with what's in cwsm/mc)

Also this would probably make it grab more mobs considering that it's still moving after they get grabbed, and mobs tend to spawn in clusters so they could all get grabbed at once
- I didn't say that you said to slow them down, I was just saying that as something I disliked about an idea to solve the potential problem of the beams not reaching any mobs. By moving faster they could cover more area and target more entities. Sorry that was not very clear.
I think I understand what you're wanting here now. You want the beams to consistently sweep the area picking up targets one by one. These targets would get locked in to the beams so they can't escape. Is that correct?

Pretty much, yea (I know is sounds a lot like my old sweep attack one, but this is based off the GMod addon I swear)
Basically, it has no scanning cooldowns and always has an easing motion when changing directions. It would always act like it's scanning, even when it has a target (#2 in the reply for what I mean) Also, targets that get locked in the beam should no longer be targets since they are being pulled in already (unless they get pulled out by distraction/fishing rods), that way more nearby mobs can be targeted, solving an issue where mob groups are spread out too much and the wither storm would pick up only like 1 or 2 out of the 5 that couldve spawned and been grabbed. Also, I noticed the wither storm never seems to grab mobs near the beam, only the randomly selected mobs. That could possibly just be a regular cwsm feature instead of just for this
Alright thanks for the clarification, I could probably consider adding this in the future

@nonamecrackers2
If im correct this is the gmod addon @SSgamingYT is referring to:

I didn't really feel like grabbing my own footage so ill just link lucas's showcase. You can see in the video that the heads constantly look around the area, though they won't "angle" towards anything like what @SSgamingYT said
