What: The tool would be an item that makes a repeated noise when the player is close to a Sickened mob or the Withered Symbiont. Approach the mob closer, and the tool makes the noise faster. Inversely, the rate lowers if you get further away. Think of how other video games implement metal detector puzzles (e.g. Psychonauts, Webfishing) but in a three-dimensional space instead of just combing a flat plane/the ground. The tool would be able to be turned off/on, to prevent signal spamming when you found the Sickened mob or the Symbiont.

Thematically, a haunted bell (the Withered Bell?) or a dowsing tool (the Dowsing Staff?) would fit. Bells in Minecraft already have a connection with detecting mobs (highlighting raid mobs), and dowsing is a real-world divination practice used to locate rare or desirable materials.

Why: Currently in CWSM, finding Sickened Mobs to craft Golden Apple Stew and finding the Withered Symbiont to fight it can be an exercise in "guide dang it". Minecraft landscapes can be complex, and both the Symbiont and Sickened mobs can be located underground, in structures, etc. Finding the Withered Symbiont in particular seems to be particularly frustrating for users, based on discussions I've had/seen about the mod and by repeated suggestions to add a highlight or glow to the Withered Symbiont: #305, #451, #862, #2215, #2438.

From Cracker's and Nazaru's comments on the linked issues, the design intention is that the player explores and finds the Withered Symbiont, and that highlighting defeats this entirely. While I understand this, my counterpoint is that players should get feedback on if what they're doing is working, rather than metaphorically flying in the dark. Taking inspiration from metal detector puzzles hits a healthy medium in my opinion, as it turns finding Sickened mobs and the Symbiont into a puzzle you have to solve in real time, complementing the "learn by doing" and improv aspects of other parts of CWSM.

While this concept does have some overlap with the upgraded Amulet, the upgraded Amulet is an endgame tool as it requires Chorus Fruit; considering the time crunch that the Wither Storm and Wither Sickness present, the functionality of the tool suggested should't be restricted to endgame. The suggested tool would also never give you precise numbers like the upgraded Amulet does.

My biggest problem with this would be the range of this tool. To make this actually worth using it would need to have a fairly large range, otherwise you would just be back to looking around for the Symbiont/sickened mobs without the detector. It would have to have directionality to it like typical metal detectors
