Suggestion: Redstone Comparator Link

After a large amount of oopsies with my steam engines triggering a lot of my overstress clutches, I wished for a way to be able to see the status of all of them from one place. I realized this was possible with comparators and redstone links but with my "power pole" setup this would be hard to implement and look incredibly clunky. I then had an idea for a niche but nice-to-have item: a redstone link that functions as a comparator for the block it's mounted to.
I realize this probably doesn't have many use cases but there definitely are some (such as the overstress clutch). Hope it will be considered, though.
I think it's too niche of a use case to create a separate type of redstone link, but I might allow you to install a linked transmitter on a comparator.
a linked transmitter on a comparator.
Linked transmitters can almost already do that by just placing it on the end of comparators, right? I think the main issue was really just the inability to place it directly on a vertical structure like a pole or wall. Wouldn't the opposite be better, installing a comparator on an existing linked transmitter, instead of the initially suggested separate item? Or would this seem out of place?
I just can't think of a good way to represent a vertical redstone link with comparator function. It's also another niche case of combining two blocks together which I'm not very keen about.
