I have never been able to use the machine, I have never found a vein of minerals in the chunk, always nearby or traces, but never in the chunk so I have never been able to extract anything

Press F3+G to see chunk borders, nearby means it's in a neighboring chunk, traces is in a 2 chunk radius.
