flywheel still runs when separated from furnace engine

i am trying to make a boring drill that runs for a looooong time and is self propelled, so i attached a furnace engine and flywheel to it. when i activated the minecart creation mechanism the flywheel was turned into a piece of the cart but the furnace engine was not. when i turned the cart back into blocks the flywheel was still running
