I set up a rope pulley as an elevator. When I logged into the server a while after, the elevator platform had descended through the floor and moved 40 blocks downward into solid blocks, without breaking them, and not leaving a shaft/hole after it(except the rope).
The rope pulley was powered though shafts the entire time, however there were blocks in the way where it was supposed to stop.
