Sail blocks cause significant loss of FPS

Sail blocks (when spinning on windmill) cause a major loss in FPS. On my system, a simple "square" windmill design dropped my FPS from ~700 to ~300, whereas the same windmill design made with wool blocks had a negligible performance impact.
This can be recreated anywhere and has remained consistent among different worlds, different modpacks, video settings, etc. I've tried tweaking just about every setting I can think of.... these things just aren't optimized.
Here are some screenshots with 2 simple windmills, one with sails, one with wool. See the FPS values for reference.
Have you tried a larger wool windmill in comparison? I had a similiar issue, but the impact of the used blocks was negligible. The size did not affect the fps noticable either. But the speed at which things move had a major impact on performance. Hope that helps in solving this issue.

I attached screenshots in the original post. 2 windmills the same size, one with wool, one with sails. The wool one had no impact on FPS on or off. The sail one dropped my fps by 400.
This will be fixed in the next update with my new rendering backend. If you want to try out a snapshot version you can download it here.
WOW I wasn't aware that it needed to be enabled! Thank you, no loss of FPS now. Is it possible that this will be compatible with shaders in the future?
