The structure is preserved in absolute orientation when the minecart becomes an object. But it is more reasonable to save the structure in the opposite direction.
When a minecart is heading east, use a wrench to turn it into an item. Place this item on a track facing south. The overall structure still faces east. But according to intuition, the structure should be aligned with the placement direction and face the south.
