The gearbox is directly next to a sequenced gearbox (which does not break) and a sticky mechanical piston holding a mechanical plough. The piston is set to stay an entity to reduce block updates. This happened at 128 rpm and above (lower rotation speeds were not tested). The server config is the default. This is a singleplayer world. The system is not reaching the stress limit.

Mechanical components break when they are too fast or their speed/rotational direction changes rapidly, I'd guess the observer clock with the seq. gearshift is causing the gearbox to break.

In that case, I'll swap the reversing piston for a not-reversing mechanical bearing and stop having problems.
