Can't target funnels using mechanical arm

This is the issue: I have a bunch of mechanical arms set up picking items off a mechanical belt and depositing them into brass funnels attached to mechanical crafters to auto-craft items, and it's all working perfectly.

Then now, all of a sudden, when I'm trying to add one more of these contraptions to the line, I cannot click on the brass funnels of the newly set up mechanical crafters with the new mechanical arm to designate them as inputs for the arm. When I'm holding the mechanical arm and right-clicking on the brass funnels, instead of them turning blue or yellow to indicate I've selected them as inputs or outputs, the game just tries to place the mechanical arm, as if I was just clicking on a regular block to try to place it down.

I've also tried just placing brass and andesite funnels elsewhere and targeting them with a mechanical arm, and that doesn't work either. I can still target funnels I've already placed, but any new funnels (brass or andesite), regardless of where in the world I place them, just don't seem to be recognized by the mechanical arm as viable inputs/outputs anymore.

Designating any other viable output for the mechanical arm works fine. I can target a chute with it and the UI with the yellow/blue box around the chute pops up. And funnels work fine in all other respects. They can take on filters, process items, etc. It's just specifically placing a new funnel and trying to target it with a mechanical arm.

Is the funnel in input mode?
