it should be possible to process nether quartz derivatives (such as nether quartz blocks, pillars, and bricks) into raw nether quartz, using the grinding wheels. there would, of course, have to be diminishing returns, with perhaps nether quartz blocks being grinded into 2 nether quartz with a 50% chance of a third, while other non-slabs give one with a 25% chance of a second. slabs would give somewhere between a 25 and 50% chance of 1 nether quartz
