When lowering/raising a platform attached with rope pulleys, if you have a minecart stopped on an (un)powered rail, which you are also riding in, when the platform places again the minecart will be shunted into the block below it. During ascent/descent it will also rotate 90 degrees. I have seen it happen also when the minecart is unoccupied on the (un)powered rail but this was not consistently reproducible.

This behavior can also occur on a detector rail but it seems to occur less often.

I have not tested this on 1.17/1.18.
