Game Crashes "Because Direction is Null"

Describe the Bug
I returned to the overworld through the Nether to an area with several contraptions, and the game crashed. I suspect it has something to do with Chutes due to the crash report. The reproduction steps are an approximation of what I believe caused the crash according to the crash report linked below.

Reproduction Steps
1.Set up a Crushing Wheel (doesn't need to be processing anything)
2.Have a Chute facing down into the processing area and another facing down into a barrel
3.Enter the Nether through a portal
4. Return to the overworld
5. Game crashed at this point
Expected Result
I would expect even if it were processing for it to not cause a crash
