Hook up horses, for horse power.

Describe the Suggestion

I would love it if there was a way to hook up a horse to create power to turn my machines. That way I can use real "horse power"

Picture from an old 1.12 mod that did something like what I am talking about.

This seems somewhat unrealistic for a mod that is all about kinetic power. While funny, horse-power would seem to "come out of nowhere." While using entities for power is an interesting topic, I don't think this idea fits the mod.

Kinetic power has a long history with horses, Horses where used for "power" before it was called kinetic power. I feel it fits the mod great as it should be the starting point before water and wind power. I am not sure how it would be implemented as to keep authentic horses would need rest/food. But if done right it could be a great addition.
You are of course free to disagree, I respect that not everyone would agree with me,

Below some definitions about horsepower, that help explain why I think it fits the mod.

Nominal horsepower (nhp) is an early 19th-century [rule of thumb], It assumed a steam pressure of 7 psi
Nominal horsepower = 7 × area of piston in square inches × equivalent piston speed in feet per minute/33,000.
For paddle ships, the Admiralty rule was that the piston speed in feet per minute was taken as 129.7 × (stroke)1/3.38.

Indicated horsepower (ihp) is the theoretical power of a reciprocating engine if it is completely frictionless in converting the expanding gas energy (piston pressure × displacement) in the cylinders.

Shaft horsepower (shp) is the power delivered to a propeller shaft, a turbine shaft, or to an output shaft of an automotive transmission.

Brake horsepower (bhp) is the power measured using a brake type (load) dynamometer at a specified location, such as the crankshaft, output shaft of the transmission, rear axle or rear wheel.

Of course, you'd still need to feed the horses

I agree 100% that this would be cool and would fit in great with the general feel of this mod, animal power was widely used in the same era as the wind and water powered machinery we already have. I'd very much be in favor if having some kind of a drawbar item that certain animals could be leashed to to pull a cart around or generate rotational force through a frame attached to a bearing.

That said there'd be a lot of supporting work needed to make the behavior reasonable, like eMorph notes you'd have to have a hunger/fatigue system and then that leads to people wanting to automate handling their animals' needs and you can see how adding such a thing can be a lot more work than it seems.

Suggest to use a carrot fishing rod to keep the horse or donkey going forward
