The handcrank should probably use hunger when you use it. Also why does it require brass to craft? Is it to discourage relying on it early-game and encourage building power sources? This suggestion could be another way of achieving this.

1:the hand crank was never meant to be a power source, just an opener and closer for gate systems and etc.
2: can you imagine how hard it wouls be to get a press working?
