[Question] (1.18.2) Is the extendo grip supposed to increase the range of attacks?

Describe the Bug
The extendo grip increases the range I can place and break blocks but it doesn't let me attack from further away. In 1.16 I thought I could attack from further away. Is this a balancing change, me remembering wrong, or a bug?
Reproduction Steps
- Get Extendo Grip
- Try to place or break blocks from further away: works
- Try to hit a mob from further away: doesn't work
Expected Result
Holding an extendo grip would let you hit a mob from further away
