Describe the Bug

when i put the jar file in the mods folder, and click play, it doesnt start up and immediately crashes

Reproduction Steps

1.put jar file into mods folder
2.click "play" on curseforge
3.click "play" on minecraft launcher
...

Expected Result

i expected to run minecraft and play the mod

Try to backup(rename) the .minecraft folder and do a fresh installation.
I tried the same versions on a new installation and had no errors when starting the game.

I found if you created your forge profile via curseforge it doesn't like it when you just add mod files to the install. I assume that curseforge does something with mods (ie generating a modpack) which alters the forge build that is specific to modpacks. I would try making a modpack of the mod you wish to add OR optionally do as Lord-HaHaHa suggested with a fresh install.
