Game crashes or lags when elevators are used too often

Every elevator I've made has consisted of an andesite door, a main carriage from assorted blocks, and contraption controls. After using the elevator 4-5 times on any server or world, it (the server or world) crashes or experiences a severe lag spike. I've tried removing the doors and contraption controls, and this issue still occurs.
