Train Track & Metal Girder Setup

This is what I have tried dozens of times
This is what happens most of the time when I put Metal Girder in the off-hand position and place Train Track
I tried holding down the ctrl key but it didn't work as expected
Can someone tell me what should I do to make him achieve the effect of photo1?

This happens to me (fabric) whenever i lay down a (level orthogonal) straight line of rails: the girders are placed vertically. try a non-orthogonal level line and it gets worse: the girders are placed vertically but not connected.
you can toggle the state of the (connected) girders using the wrench; but what a pain.
as mentioned by @TropheusJ in Fabricators-of-Create#957 (comment) this issue also occurs on forge, so this issue should be re-opened
