Describe the Bug
For the past two days I keep receiving the same message (Internal Exception: java.net.SocketException: Connection reset) every time I try to join a friends server.
I downloaded: all of the required mods from the mod folder, forge 1.20.1, everything was linked to me by the servers host. Then I first installed java 17 because thats what I saw was compatible with the forge version, then when I faced my current issue I contacted the server manager and I was told to download java 8 โ nothing changed. I deleted all of my old mods and downloaded the mod folder again. Still doesnt work. I tried VPN, lowering the render distance, restarting computer, redownloading forge, changed locations, etc. I feel like ive tried everything. I am honestly at this point willing to instal Windows or Linux, lmao.
Oh also if this adds anything: there are 29 mods, 31 with forge, everything matches up and everything works which means mods are not the issue.
Reproduction Steps
- Open minecraft forge 1.20.1
- Click multiplayer
- Pick the specific server
- Receive the message
...
Expected Result
- Open minecraft forge 1.20.1
- Click multiplayer
- Pick the specific server
- SERVER LOADS

Additional Context
Please help(
please crash your game by holding F3+C for 10s and attach the resulting crash report (don't paste it). do it in single player so you can actually start the game.
Also remove optifine.
Alright I just did that.

For some reason im unable to crash it. I held for 20 seconds mutiple times, reloaded the game, etc,. Still doesnt work.
did you actually manage to enter a single player world? Also your server manager is a moron. java 17 has been mandated by mojang for years. java 8 is for 1.16.5 and earlier. so which one are you using? if not 17, then please switch back and try again.

Yes I was able to enter the single player world. I'll switch back to 17 and notify once thats done..
Update: I switched back to 17 and am right now waiting for minecraft to load.
also update forge, your version is too old. see https://files.minecraftforge.net/net/minecraftforge/forge/index_1.20.1.html
i dont understand how you cannot crash the game. that just makes no sense. is something somehow disabling the bindings (i don't even know how that's possible). are the bindings different on mac?
I know, its fking stupid. Im gonna try and remove the f3 from my minecraft (it was for showing coordinates prev,) lets see if then it works
yh it doesn't seem to be a binding at all. it might be hardcoded.
the crash would have given me full and accurate information about your system and installed profile. but we'll just have to do without. at this point, and since you dont have many mods, the simplest is to disable all mods except create; and try to do the crash thing again. let's do that as a first step
Its getting really late for me so I'll try again tomorrow.. Thank you for your patience, time and help. I hope tmr we'll fix it.
