It would be really cool if the stockpile switch could connect to inventories above or below it. I recently built a cobbleworks, and only noticed when I was done that the stockpile switches weren't actually connected to the adjustable crates sitting on top of them.

I second this; I have a compact chest storage system, and I want to use stockpile switches and redstone links to relay their capacity elsewhere, but I cant do this because Stockpile Switches do not connect vertically; and I don't want to use fan powered chutes to extract vertically from the chest; I cannot extract from underneath the chest or the sides of the chest as these are blocked by conveyor belts and other chests, the front is the input and the rear is supposed to be the output; but currently the only place I can place the observer is the rear.
