Tesla Coil Particles & Standalone Functionality

I feel as though the tesla coil could really benefit from more particles and functionality. As it stands I don't really see any benefit from making one in my world, and that's a shame because I love the idea. I think it sorely needs more functions. It can zap entities so you can set up a mob farm but it is so expensive to make, the damage output is slow, and it requires constant power to work. It is way less efficient than plenty of other easier methods.

Before discussing function though, I think its worth saying that the tesla coil would benefit emmensely from particles that show what entities it is zapping. Right now it doesn't feel all that much like a tesla coil; it behaves more like a plain AOE. Particle effects emanating from the coil when it is active would be incredible: little sparks that shoot randomly when nothing is nearby and larger bolts of electricity hitting entities when they are in range. It would also show what the range of the coil is in the first place as that is not clear while playing the game.

For functions, the obvious one is the lightning rod. It is incredibly counterintuitive that there is no interaction between the two. Examples of interactions could be:

  • Increasing range of the tesla coil when a lighting rod is placed on top
  • Automatically removing rust from copper blocks
  • Channelling the electricity in a certain direction
  • Increasing the damage of the tesla coil
  • etc.

Other functions the tesla coil desperately needs

  • Turning creepers into charged creepers
  • electrifying water
  • Redstone signal strength effects range and/or damage output (Or really just any way to interact with the range and damage)
  • Acting like a lightning rod in a thunderstorm where the lightning strike could destroy it (configurable to turn it off)
  • Electrifying copper blocks to create an electric floor hazard
  • Chainmail armor protects against shock damage
  • etc.

The mod doesn't necessarily need all or even most of these, but it does need something because as it stands the tesla coil feels like an after-thought, and was a big disappointment for me. Though, I understand any one of these is probably a nightmare to implement and this mod is probably not your first priority. All the negativity aside, fantastic work on this mod! It is incredible. Keep up the good work.
