Describe the bug

not exactly a bug but the only way to ask seeing as you don't have a guide in your wiki. we're not in a server but me and my friend are trying to friend eachother, we tried the unique code but whenever we copy it and try to paste somewhere to figure out what it is the game crashes. it says Unique code: null if thats supposed to help or mean anything to you. pls just tell me what to do or what I'm missing

1. Go into the minetogether chat (crashes on MC 1.12.2)
2. Click on your friend in the chat
3. Press "Add Friend" and enter a name
4. Wait for your friend to accept the friend request popup on their screen.

Sorry for asking this but, why is the mod even available if all its functions are just not working in this version ?
I mean, you can't join minigames, can't add friends and as such can't play with them, you can't open the global chat...
I spent hours trying to find information about the version I'm using, which IS 1.12.2, mainly because of the rule about not asking about older versions else you get banned, and after all this I just get a "Oh yeah, that version, well too bad for you. It doesn't do anything."

the game crashes on 1.12.2 when opening the chat you have to wait for it to be fixed.
