After installing the fine manipuators I have a 3x3 crafting grid now but I don't have the baubles icon on my avatar preview anymore.

That's also true for the icons quark adds (but I only just noticed that as I never use them). This could be a tradeoff between having this functionality or a 3x3 grid but I don't think I can access the baubles any other way.
