- I have searched the issue tracker and did not find an issue describing my bug/feature.
Description of your suggestion.
Hi,
- Lower the hydration drain to somewhat drain half the bar a day (hunger is already a mechanic in game, that does managing resources better in the overworld eg. food is a limited source, water is infinite with literally just 2 blocks of water needed)
- Gonna explain more later, but this fixes the hydration being just another annoying stat that doesn't even affect difficulty (it only takes 1 placed bucket of water to quench thirst infinitly, even if that is not the prefered way, you can get out of the worst dehydration situation with just that, besides water is everywhere in the overworld - which brings me to the point 2)
- Make thirst drain in the nether a gameplay priority, nether fixes all the dehydration issues that happen in overworld (water being infintie) and it makes sense that you would be more thirsty in the hot nether.
- That would make nether something you prepare for, and give a reason to wait 15 minutes to boil water multiple times in preparation for nether
- Balancing annoyance:
- Make leather flasks not degrade the water purity (this is necesary for nether preparation that might take more time, and is just not a fun mechanic, as it punishes preparation. And also isn't that realistic anyway if you think about it)
- Thirst shouldn't take a long time to replenish (for annoyance reasons) 3- purified water drinks from flask should allways fill the entire thirst bar. Any more than that, and its becomes more annoying (rule of thirds), You can still balance the dehydration around that (lowering the amount of water a flask can hold) its just purely for quality of life
- To balance that you can make water boiling take longer (10-15 minutes) (keep in mind to not degrade water purity in leather flask as it would make preparation pointless).
That will transform dehydration from annyoing timer to a resource you have to plan ahead to manage, while still keeping it non intrusive for most of the play time in overwolrd
To put my main idea in fewer words:
Mechanic of dehydration (in all mods) is like a mosquito bite, it might happen often but it doesn't make your life any harder besides of annoying you.
I want to make it like a bee, bites less often but is an actuall threat you might consider
