Ferrous Ion Should Be Light Green, and Iron Powder Should Not Directly Dissolve into Iron Ion (Fe3+)

Description
Ferrous ions (Fe2+) should be light green in color, and iron powder should not directly produce ferric ions (Fe3+) upon acid leaching, unless an oxidizing acid (such as nitric acid or hot concentrated sulfuric acid) is used. Instead, acid leaching should be applied to Crushed Iron Ore, allowing both ferrous (Fe2+) and ferric (Fe3+) ions to be produced, or iron ions to be obtained through other methods, for example, hydrogen peroxide oxidation.

Problem This Addresses
Currently, iron powder can directly dissolve to produce ferric ions (Fe3+) upon acid leaching, which is not entirely chemically accurate. Normally, metallic iron (Fe) reacts with acids to primarily form ferrous ions (Fe2+), unless an oxidizing acid is used. Additionally, iron powder should not directly convert to ferric ions; instead, ferrous ions should be formed first. A more realistic approach would be to use Crushed Iron Ore for acid leaching, allowing both ferrous and ferric ions to be produced, or iron ions to be obtained through other methods.

For example:

  • Reactions with nitric acid:

    • Dilute nitric acid:
      Fe + 4HNO₃ → Fe(NO₃)₃ + NO + 2H₂O
    • Concentrated nitric acid:
      Fe + 6HNO₃ → Fe(NO₃)₃ + 3NO₂ + 3H₂O
  • Reaction with hot concentrated sulfuric acid:
    2Fe + 6H₂SO₄ → Fe₂(SO₄)₃ + 3SO₂ + 6H₂O

This change would make the mod’s chemistry system more accurate by ensuring that iron powder does not directly produce ferric ions and requiring Crushed Iron Ore to undergo acid leaching for a realistic distribution of iron ions, or allowing iron ions to be obtained through other methods.
