Missing Texture with OptiFine 1.12.2 (presumably older versions also)

In 1.12.2 when running OptiFine the texture will be purple and missing simply with text saying which way the block is rotated. The hitbox seemingly reverts back to normal and the block takes up the entire space sadly...
Also in an attempt I removed the mod clientside and the server rejected me saying it was required.
This seems like an Optifine issue. Maybe Optifine changes the way the hopper is rendered.
It probably expects the mod to also supply a texture instead of that, but the main part I care about is the fact it's required if the server has it. I don't mind desync because my client didn't click that and the server said I could.
