I literally work up this morning with several ideas that I thought would add in some awesome functionality to the mod and thought that you would like these. Sorry for the long list in advance.. I had found a lot of these ideas to be funny but at the same time useful.
- (IN PROGRESS) Patrol Mode: A mode that has the dogs patrol areas that you mark with the command beam and attack any type of entity (which you can set in a GUI possibly). I would this EXTREMELY useful especially as I have different automatic structures for generating different things and my house is pretty big and is vulnerable for mobs to walk on it. Imagine an army of guard dogs protecting your valuables :3
- Elyra Talent: A talent that allows your dog to fly with the Elytras! At level 5, the dog can take off without having to jump off a hill (like a dragon!). This one is a bit crazy but I wanted to suggest it xD.
- (IN PROGRESS) Random Sizes: Have different sizes for the dogs, similar to the dinosaurs in the JurassiCraft mod where the dinos have randomized size, and the size chooses between the parents they are bred. Also these sizes would allow the dog to be able bound up one entire block or have to jump over them, or even fit in small spaces
- Ninja Talent: A talent that allows the dog to cloak and attack nearby enemies like creepers and zombies (Been watching a lot of Samurai Jack lately lol)
- Torch Holding: A talent/slot in the doggy inventory that allows the player to equip a torch or any other light source and have the dog emit light from the source (particularly for shaders, this would work very well but this would also work without shaders)
- (IN PROGRESS) No Attack on Sneaking: Have the dogs stop attacking when sneaking (pressing shift). This is similar to Stacy's Wolves and Sophisticated Wolves.
- Roar Talent: Have a talent where the dog (if they are large enough that is, this is where that different sizes feature comes in :3) can roar and knock back enemies. This one is basically the same function from my mod, ZeroQuest.
- Sleep at Night: At the end of the day when your going to bed, have the dog sleep on the best and rest! (That where they can heal up and be refreshed for the next day) Can be turned off via configuration settings
- Hunger Alert: Have the dog alert you when it is becoming hungry.
- (IN PROGRESS) Ranged Attack Talents: Talents that allow your dog attack from a distance! Possibilies: Fire, Arrow, Poison, Ice, etc.
- Extended Berserker Aggro Range: When in Berserker Mode, have the dog's attack range (the proximity a mob has to be before it begins to attack it) increase in case a monster (like a creeper particularly) gets too close to the owner and kills the owner; also even have the dog follow the owner more closely, constantly standing by their side
- "Targeted/Selective" Berserker Mode: A version Berserker mode that allows you to configure what type of entities of any type to attack and/or avoid certain entities. This would be best implemented in a GUI or through the Command Emblem
- Guardian Mode: A mode where the dog comes to your side and takes hits for you (the incoming damage gets transferred from you to the dog, not potions effects unfortunately)
- Doggy Doors: Mini doors for your dog to walk through (Could also work with other mods aswell :D)
- Collar texture Revamp: Use HTML style color codes similar to WearableBackpacks and the color selection of JourneyMap
- Tough as Nails Integration: The dog can also get cold and too hot (can be turned off via configuration settings)
- Pet Carriers: An item that allows you to transport your dogs! Like Sophisticated Wolves
- Eat Floor Food: The same function as in Sophisticated Wolves, the dog can eat dropped food items that are on the ground. Also, with the Happy Eater Talent at max, the dog will also eat rotten flesh and fish off the ground
- Dog Armor (@XvSkItZvX): Allow the dogs to have armor, which decreases damage (@XvSkItZvX)
- Talent Toggle (@XvSkItZvX): Toggle specific talents to use
- Breeds (@XvSkItZvX): Have different sizes and colors for the dogs, depending on what species they are (i.e. German Shepards, Golden Retrievers, etc.)
- Genders: Dogs would have preassigned genders and will only reproduce when dogs of the opposite gender are given a Breeding bone, can be toggled with configurations.
I want to pet the dog. I do not need petting the dog to do anything in particular for the dog or the player, but I want it to be an action I can do. You can probably tell by my avatar that this is a very important feature and there is even a Twitter feed dedicated to whether you can pet dogs in video games or not.
How do I use a command beam? Is it a command or an item? If it is a command, what is the command?
Posting in this thread because of the topic and Originator of the thread appearing to be one of the devs.
I had spent about an hour comparing this mod with two of the others currently available with a similar theme and focus.
I opted out of posting a list of requests for compatibility/features after installing and examining the mod more closely and seeing that it only lacks a couple of the features I was wanting compatibility for anyways. On its own, this is a very well designed and refined mod.
Armor would be a great addition, which is provided by one of the mods I intended to ask for compatibility with. However the "Pack Dog" option basically negates half of the purpose of the other mod.
Another request would be for different breeds of dogs, may compliment the different sized feature NovaViper had suggested as well. Otherwise, possibly just a method to change their color, which interestingly, the picture on the Curseforge Project page shows that this was, at some point, a feature already implemented within the mod.
On a final note. ModPackers, myself included, would find it very useful to be able to selectively enable/disable some of the abilities of the dogs to maintain the theme of their pack. A heavy magic/fantasy pack would be wide open where as some of the packs are trending to a more realistic survialcentric theme may appreciate being able to turn off a dogs ability to "burn" or "poison" mobs.
Either way, awesome mod look forward to using it in my first mod pack, your work and your efforts are invaluable to the modded minecraft community.
Thanks for your note :). I am currently in the process of contacting the author of "Wolf Armor" about compatibility. I will add some more config options thanks for the suggestion, shouldn't take to long to implement.
@XvSkItZvX I added your suggestions to the Feature List! The custom breeds is a rather interesting idea, as these breeds could process special abilities or feature unique skins (which are harder to obtain)
awsome! If I'm imagining the what you're saying correctly, it sounds like it's going to add a layer of immersion to your mod too. Like how chickens or agricraft goes about obtaining different types but with dog breeding? Not as in the materials produced, but in how some dogs are better suited for some tasks. Kind of like how there is a difference between a sight hound and a scent hound in real life...or herd dogs and guard dogs were bred for their own individual task...
Granted attempting to achieve real world animal husbandry would become quickly overwhelming, but a much more simplified facsimile could make this mod less of "just something kewl" to a feature element in some survival packs.
I'm just going to leave this hear, not as a request but perhaps inspiration....
Dog Sled! lol...
@XvSkItZvX Dude, that sounds amazing! ๐ In fact, it would kinda like how Jurassic World has the many different dinosaurs and you can cross breed them to get new kinds of dinosaurs.. but with dogs instead! Imagine.. a German Retriever, with the talents of both a German Shepard and a Golden Retriever :D
In the pillow paw talent at level 5 the dog glide when he fall from a hill, so I had been working in wings for the dog at that level, that's a bit like the elytra talent that you mencioned @NovaViper, but it still needs a lot of work.
Dog Armor: I have implemented as part of the guard dog talent, but I will wait for @ProPercivalalb contacting the "Wolf Armor" author to continue with this.
@knuckles001 Sweet! That sounds pretty awesome! I hope one of us or someone else will figure out how to make the dogs fly with elytras, I'd love to see a dragon dog :3
Patrol, sleep, doggie doors and floor food all sound awesome! Also different breeds, and possibly parent's talents/skills being passed on to offspring.
But seriously, PATROL! I don't always want to take my dogs with me when I'm going out, but I hate leaving them sitting at home so they don't follow me, I feel like they get bored. (Yes, I anthropomorphize the digital puppies way too much. grin)
I'd really love something like the Minecraft Comes Alive villager mechanic, where you can set a home, and the entity will roam around within range of the home. Then I could set my dogs at home, and let them run around when I'm not there!
