I couldn't find anywhere on the wiki link provided on the curse forge page, nor the curse forge page it's self on how to link a dog to its bed. It just says that you can do it, but not how

I saw some people talking about shift clicking a dog while near a bed but that has no effect in game and dogs die permenantly anyways.

Right-click the bed with an empty hand while your dog is near it, not shift right-click

Make sure your off-hand is empty as well. Just debugged this myself. Both hands need to be empty, then (shift?) right click the bed.
