I know this isn't simple to do, as it requires forcing the pet's chunk to remain loaded, but it would prevent the pet from being stranded if you die. It makes me use my pets a lot less than I would like, as pets being able to respawn means nothing if I lose them. Also should be implemented across dimensions, i.e you die in the Nether and respawn back in the Overworld.
