Squids are not spawning naturally

Bug Description

I created a test modpack with only this mod (along with Fabric API and GeckoLib, of course). I flew over many rivers and oceans and didn't see a single squid. I removed Duckling and loaded up the same world, and squids immediately populated the waters. Is this either intentional or an unintended side effect?

How to Reproduce?

  1. Install Duckling, enter a world and observe a river/ocean
  2. Notice there are no squids
  3. Remove Duckling, re-enter same world
  4. Notice there are now squids

Expected Behavior

When Duckling is installed, I'd expect to find a mix of both ducks and squids.

Version

1.0.7-fabric

Mod Loader Version

MC 1.18.2 Fabric - 0.14.9

Mod Loader

Fabric

Logs or additional context

I don't have an issue with salmon, just squids.

Fabric API version 0.58.0+1.18.2.
GeckoLib version 1.18-3.0.59.

Also just so you know there are multiple typos in the note at the top of the page.

same thing happening to me on forge 1.20.1 and not only with squids, but with any aquatic creature added including from other mods like alex's mobs

tested with the duckling mod, no natural spawn of any aquatic mob, removed the duckling mod and everymob started spawning, and it didn't affect only in duck's biomes, but all water biomes
