Is there any reason or possibility to backport the forge 1.12.2 visual compass feature into this fork? The current feature when turned on feels very lack luster. More importantly I should state from the Dynamic Surroundings: HUD mod.

I think you are referring to the compass rose textures?

I mean this HUD in the center of the screen.

Sorry for being so late in responding. RL took several detours this year. That is called a compass rose. Adding those textures is on my list of things to do.
