Single player or server?

Both. Maybe its caused by one of my other mods. here's the list: Optifine, Shoulder Surfing Reloaded, Fancy Block Particles, More Player Models, Sound Filters, Better Foliage, Proportional Destruciton Particles.

My forge version is 13.23.4.2705

Can you disable OptiFine to see if they show up? I have seen in the past where it can interfere with the rendering of the bubbles.

(Also note that if playing on a server the server must have DS installed as well for the player chat to show up. Entity chat is purely client side and should still show.)
