Cuboid 3D tail mode

Hi! After playing the 23w13a_or_b April Fool's snapshot, going back to base vanilla made me sorely lack the boofy tail that the "Trails and Tails" vote added to the game. I turned to this mod to see if maybe I could add it to my skin through here, but it seems you only allow 2d tails as of right now. Fair enough, but sad.
This feature request is exactly what it says: add a 3d tail mode. Maybe its version of "tail segments" could add onto the length, instead of bending the cubes- if it's not just outright disabled.

And though you may note the date, please know I am completely serious. I love my character's boofy tail design. I don't even know if "boofy" is an actual word. But I'd say it's a good description, wouldn't you?
I don't understand what you mean. I don't tend to play the April Fools snapshots.
For a while we've been talking about adding a tail mode that's similar to the "cross" ears mode — is that sorta what you're looking for?
I'm still considering potential ways to squeeze out a 3D tail here (similar to the extremely awkward and contrived mapping used for snouts) so I won't close this yet.
Though it wouldn't cover every use-case, would it be possible to just have the one tail mapping be reused on all 4 faces and then add an extra solid color at the tip as a single pixel?
It'd work for foxes and raccoons but probably not huskies which need different texture for the sides than the top and bottom.
But it's probably the best option for space-saving.
