Unholy amount of FPS lag under large bodies of water blocks

Was playing this mod with another mod Panthalassa and traveling to an underwater lab resulted in like 1 FPS. There's a bunch of water source blocks that seem like they're being treated like falling water which generates an unholy amount of particles
. I don't think the issue is necessarily with the other mod as it can happen in other places around water (like ocean temples or using sponges).
I ran Spark profiler on my client and can see this mod accounting for a whopping 60% of the render thread.

Removing this mod in the same spot brings my FPS above 30. I'm guessing some optimizations may be desired here to reduce the amount of particles.

Happening to me with ocean caves. Can't use this mod and travelling from the lag. Sucks man...
