Bug Description

This issue was reported from a 2019 MBP, Intel chip, MacOS Sonoma.

While playing minecraft (walking/mining/crafting - does not seem to matter what activity or whether I'm out and about, in a boat, inside, or in a cave) after a short while (~10min?) the game crashes. This happens when I've only got forge and embeddium as mods enabled, but I first experienced this with JEI + JourneyMap + ImmediatelyFast + Embeddium on my local LAN forge server.

I tried vanilla on MC 1.20.4 and 1.20.2 and did not experience a crash.

I also tried MC 1.20.2 + Forge 48.1.0 + Journeymap + JEI and did not experience a crash.

✅ confirmed ~~currently confirming this happens with only embeddium installed, just wanted to write this all down and provide my log file with everything and then do a quick run after submitting the issue~~

✅ confirmed: my wife's MBP (we're both on the Intel ones, I think 2019 MBPs) and her's does not crash - so this is a bug introduced by Sonoma 14.2 (Wife's is on 14.0). test with previous macos version My wife has a MBP also and has not updated to the latest sonoma, I have a strong suspicion that it is something related to the macos update as my wife was playing with the same mods yesterday iirc

It's unlikely that I'm going to be able to do anything about this from Embeddium's end. The symptoms described suggest that the macOS graphics stack is crashing (since the entire session is closed and you have to log in again), which suggests a bug in macOS' graphics driver.

Macs are known for having extremely temperamental OpenGL support.

Fair; I have tested with my wife's MBP (we're both on the Intel ones, I think 2019 MBPs) and her's does not crash - so this is a bug introduced by Sonoma 14.2 (Wife's is on 14.0), adding that info to the issue desc.

If anyone comes across this from searching, now you know where to look if you want to go deeper 😉. Or you know to turn off this mod, or attempt to downgrade macos (potentially one could reset only their driver, as it is likely an issue in whatever updates apple put out to their driver for the intel iris iGPU).
